Radicalisation

ar-right extremist content is only a few clicks and likes away. On social media, young people going through vulnerable periods in their lives are exposed to images, messages, and opinions that can be difficult to recognise for what they really are.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION

A temporary exhibition on online radicalisation – for young people and anyone who wants to understand how extremist content spreads on social media.

Radicalisation happens gradually, step by step, and is reinforced by the platforms' own algorithms. Those behind the content use subtle and disguised methods. Through humour, coded language, and an appealing aesthetic, dehumanising and racist ideas slowly take hold.

Social media platforms are designed to capture our attention and keep it. Far-right extremist groups exploit these commercial algorithms to draw people deeper into their content until extremist ideas begin to feel normal. When these ideas become normalised, they pose an ongoing threat to democracy and society.

This exhibition is based on conversations with young people who have themselves been drawn into these environments and embraced these ideologies. Their stories provide valuable insight into how radicalisation unfolds and highlight the importance of shining a light on this hidden landscape.

Warning:
This exhibition contains disturbing content, including dehumanising material and racist references.

Radicalisation is not the end of the story. There is a way back.
