My Story – Personal accounts from and about 22 July

Ingrid | Personal testimonies

Ingrid had a son on Utøya on July 22. She is one of the many hundreds who experienced the uncertainty and fear of losing a child that day.

Ingrid is the mother of Kristian, who became active in AUF early on. Kristian was the leader of the party's local team in Modum, and in 2011 was part of the working group that ran the summer camp on Utøya.

On 22 July, Ingrid watched the Tour de France, when the broadcast was interrupted due to the explosion in Oslo. Not long after, she receives an SMS from her son: "They are shooting. We are hiding. Call the police. I love you". He became one of the 495 who survived the attack, but who returned home to one of the many families who still carry the terror with them.

22 July had consequences to an infinite number of people, and each one of them has their own story, says Ingrid. She wants to contribute to a common understanding of the consequences of terror, and the relevance of combating outsiders and extreme attitudes. Ingrid believes that we must become better at listening, and that 22 July is an example of how things can go if we stop caring about each other.

In these films, she tells her story from and about what happened, about the time afterwards, and what she hopes we can learn from 22 July.

The films have no age limit, but like the exhibition in the 22 July Centre they can contain strong depictions, and are therefore not recommended for children under 14. If the teacher or parent still wants to show them to younger age groups, we recommend that the adult watches the films in advance.

All the participants in these films have consented to the material being published on the 22nd July Centre's platforms, used in our communication, and be part of the learning resources made available to those who visit our website.

The films are protected by copyright; they were produced and are owned by the 22 July Centre. The video player is adapted for universal design and allows for downloading for private use. On the other hand, any other use, distribution and editing of the material without permission is illegal according to the copyright law.
